Jr. Shelton, Commercial Agent
A lifelong EBR resident and graduate of Broadmoor High School, Jr. went on to major in Business Administration and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1973 from LSU. Jr., along with his three brothers operated, Shel-Boze, Inc., a lighting and appliance distributor for home construction for 38 years.
From 2010 to 2014, Jr. sold residential real estate in the Baton Rouge area, earning respect of agents and clients alike.
Most recently, Jr. served as the Mayor of the City of Central, Louisiana’s 13th largest city and the second largest city in East Baton Rouge Parish. Jr. served from 2014 through 2018. He gained great respect from federal, state and local leaders as an advocate for his city following the disastrous Flood of 2016. As Mayor, Jr. was able to secure over $100 million in funds to help Central mitigate flooding in the future. Known as a no-nonsense negotiator, Jr. worked from the halls of Congress, to the committee rooms of the state capital and in Baton Rouge’s city hall to bring programs to his citizens to protect their way of life.
As Mayor, Jr. sought and helped procure the work of Southern Lifestyles, the premiere TND developer in the South. A nearly 200 acre development, The Settlement at Shoecreek, with 450 single family residences, 250 apartments, and 150,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, is being built in the heart of the City of Central. Also, Jr. worked diligently to bring many commercial, retail and restaurants to the city.
Jr. is married to Rita Miller Shelton and is a father of 4 and grandfather of 8.
With Jr.’s experience in municipal planning and the needs of cities, commercial real estate was a natural progression in his future endeavors.
