PacTec opens Baton Rouge manufacturing facility

PacTec Inc., a Clinton-based firm that designs and manufactures packaging for the waste and transportation industry, has expanded to Baton Rouge with the opening of a manufacturing facility on O’Neal Lane near Interstate 12.

The facility will fabricate the company’s entire line of dewatering filters and auxiliary items for spill containment and is critical to the company’s growing inventory needs, PacTec says in a news release.

“The expansion of our manufacturing capabilities into Baton Rouge is a critical milestone offering many benefits, including the availability of a larger, well-trained workforce and logistical proximity to our Mississippi River industrial corridor customers,” says owner and CEO Mike Schilling in a prepared statement.

PacTec has locations across the United States, Philippines and United Kingdom. The company says it has invested more than $500,000 in the 26,000-square-foot Baton Rouge location, which BRAC President and CEO Adam Knapp says underscores the region’s competitive advantage for manufacturing.

PacTec says the expansion creates more than a dozen jobs and $600,000 in payroll. The company also plans to make additional capital investments at the site.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome cheered the news in a statement, saying: “This global brand is as committed to investing locally as we are in growing and diversifying our economic base.”

Founded in 1989, PacTec was Business Report’s 2014 Company of the Year (with fewer than 100 employees).
